New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has scheduled a crucial discussion with the Home Secretary, Secretary of the Legislative Department, and CEO UIDAI on March 18 to deliberate on the linking of EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) and Aadhaar, sources revealed on Saturday. The meeting will take place at the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters.
The ECI has invited suggestions from all national and state political parties by April 30 to address unresolved electoral issues at different administrative levels, including Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), District Election Officers (DEO), and Chief Electoral Officers (CEO). This initiative aims to ensure greater transparency and accuracy in electoral rolls.
Earlier, on March 10, the Election Commission had clarified that the issue of duplicate voter identity card numbers is a legacy problem, dating back to 2008-2013, before the BJP-led NDA came to power. The poll body has directed states to resolve all discrepancies in electoral rolls as part of its annual updates.
Despite concerns over duplicate EPIC numbers, the ECI reassured voters that an elector can cast a vote only at their designated polling station. To further ease concerns, the poll body has set a three-month timeline to rectify duplicate EPIC numbers, ensuring that all existing and future electors receive a unique EPIC number.
