New Delhi: In a landmark moment for India-UAE relations, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, touched down in India on Tuesday for his maiden official visit. The two-day trip, held at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a significant milestone in the rapidly expanding bilateral ties between the two nations.

Sheikh Hamdan’s high-profile delegation includes key Emirati ministers, senior government officials, and top business leaders, underscoring the depth of the strategic partnership. His agenda features meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with a strong focus on trade, technology, infrastructure, and innovation.

One of the major highlights of the visit will be a working lunch hosted by PM Modi on April 8, where both leaders are expected to engage in forward-looking dialogue covering trade expansion, digital collaboration, clean energy, and cultural exchange.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit signals a “new era of bilateral synergy driven by shared aspirations and complementary strengths.” Key areas under discussion include enhanced cooperation under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which helped propel trade volumes beyond $85 billion in 2023–24.

The Crown Prince’s itinerary also includes a visit to Mumbai, where he will participate in a high-level business roundtable with leading Indian industrialists and Emirati investors. Discussions are expected to explore:

  • Scaling UAE investments in India’s renewable energy, ports, smart cities, and digital infrastructure
  • Forging start-up partnerships between Indian innovators and Dubai-based venture capitalists
  • Joint ventures in emerging technologies, AI, and green innovation

Officials see the visit as a timely catalyst for a next-gen India-UAE partnership. “India and the UAE share not just trade ties, but a vision for global collaboration rooted in economic resilience, innovation, and regional stability,” said an MEA official familiar with the visit’s agenda.

Sheikh Hamdan’s trip comes amid a flurry of high-level foreign engagements for New Delhi, reaffirming India’s position as a key global player. Notably, the Crown Prince’s visit follows several recent economic and diplomatic overtures between the two nations, including UAE’s strong support for India’s G20 leadership and increased Emirati investments in Indian infrastructure.
