Senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar was sworn in as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a new political chapter in the state. Carrying a copy of the Constitution during the ceremony, Shivakumar took the oath of office and secrecy at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.
The oath was administered by Thawar Chand Gehlot in the presence of senior Congress leaders, state legislators and invited dignitaries.
Alongside Shivakumar, veteran Congress leader G. Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. Known as a prominent Dalit leader, Parameshwara has previously held several key positions in the state government.
A number of senior legislators were also inducted into the new cabinet, reflecting a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces. The formation of the ministry is being viewed as an attempt to balance regional, social and political representation within the ruling party.
The swearing-in ceremony drew several prominent Congress figures from across the country. Among those present were Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah, Ashok Gehlot, Revanth Reddy and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The symbolism of Shivakumar taking the oath while holding a copy of the Constitution attracted political attention, with Congress leaders portraying it as a reaffirmation of constitutional values and democratic governance.
