Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has stirred fresh debate after claiming that “divine intervention” played a decisive role during Pakistan’s recent military confrontation with India earlier this year. His remarks were made during an address at the National Ulema Conference in Islamabad, where he linked religious faith with military outcomes.

Referring to the four-day standoff that followed India’s Operation Sindoor in May, Munir said Pakistan’s armed forces clearly felt divine support during the conflict. Quoting a verse from the Quran in Urdu, he suggested that success in battle comes through Allah’s will, reinforcing his belief that external forces could not overpower Pakistan when divine help was present.

A video clip of the speech, reportedly delivered on December 10, has since gone viral on social media, drawing strong reactions both within Pakistan and abroad. Observers have noted that the speech blends military messaging with religious symbolism, a combination that has often sparked controversy in the region.

Beyond India-Pakistan tensions, Munir also issued a sharp warning to Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership. He claimed that a large number of militants entering Pakistan under the banner of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are Afghan nationals. According to him, this raises serious concerns about cross-border militancy and the safety of Pakistani citizens.

The army chief further asserted that Afghanistan must clearly choose between supporting Pakistan or backing the TTP. Questioning Kabul’s intentions, he asked whether the continued violence was not effectively harming Pakistani children and civilians.
