New Delhi: Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day has sparked strong criticism from protesting farmer leaders.
The farmers, who previously had Dosanjh’s support during their protests, expressed disappointment over the meeting, questioning his commitment to the cause. The singer had earlier voiced his support for the farmers’ movement and had called for the Centre to address their demands.
Describing the meeting as a “fantastic start” to the New Year, Dosanjh praised Modi for his rise from “humble beginnings to international stardom.” However, farmer leaders have raised doubts over Dosanjh’s intentions, asking why he did not join them at the Sambhu Border in solidarity with fellow protestors.
One farmer leader was quoted by The Times of India as saying, “If Diljit truly cared about farmers, he would have come and joined us in solidarity with Dallewal Ji at Sambhu Border, listened to our concerns, and stood by his earlier statements.”
