‘BJP Is Not an Outsider in Bengal’: Devendra Fadnavis Targets TMC Over ‘Atrocities’ and Industrial Decline

Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday launched a sharp attack on the ruling dispensation in West Bengal, rejecting claims that the BJP is an “outsider” in the state and accusing the government of creating fear and stalling Bengal’s industrial growth.

Speaking in Kolkata, Fadnavis said the BJP’s roots are deeply linked to Bengal and reminded critics that the party traces its origins to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, one of Bengal’s most prominent political figures.

Fadnavis Rejects ‘Outsider’ Tag for BJP

Responding to repeated allegations that the BJP is an outsider party in Bengal, Fadnavis said such claims are historically inaccurate.

He stated that the BJP was born in Bengal through the ideological legacy of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, making it wrong to brand the party as external to the state.

The BJP leader then questioned those making the accusation, asking why they had “inflicted so many atrocities” on the people of Bengal if they truly represented the state.

His remarks were seen as a direct attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) ahead of the intensifying political battle in West Bengal.

Says Bengal’s Industrial Potential Is Being Held Back

Fadnavis also focused on Bengal’s economic prospects, saying the state has strong industrial potential but continues to struggle due to fear and uncertainty in the current environment.

According to him, the existing ecosystem in the state has discouraged business confidence and investment.

He argued that with better governance and improved ease of doing business, Bengal could regain its position as a strong industrial hub.

BJP Sharpens Bengal Pitch Ahead of Poll Battle

The BJP has been aggressively targeting the Bengal government on issues of governance, law and order, and industrial stagnation as it attempts to expand its base in the state.

Fadnavis’ comments add to the party’s broader narrative that Bengal’s economic revival requires political change and a more investor-friendly environment.

By invoking Bengal’s industrial legacy and the legacy of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the BJP is attempting to strengthen its ideological and political connect with the state.

With political temperatures rising in Bengal, Fadnavis’ remarks are likely to sharpen the confrontation between the BJP and the TMC in the coming months.
