Despite stay imposed on Metro 3 car shed at Aarey, MMRCL awaits commissioning power supply to Aarey and Dharavi Stations

Mumbai: Despite the stay imposed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on the construction work of the Metro 3 car shed at Aarey Milk Colony and the Supreme Court of India imposing stay on further cutting of trees, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) in a statement issued here on Friday disclosed that as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Tata Power Company (TPC) for Power supply in stations – Aarey and Dharavi is expected to get commissioned, raising serious questions about the stay imposed by Thackeray.

Besides this the MMRCL has set targets for completing tunneling works by September 2020 and arrival of rolling stock by December 2020, the first underground Metro 3 line. The project has two Halt Stations to check-in first before the project can hit the rails. One is the stay imposed on the construction work of the Metro 3 car shed and review of the project ordered by Thackeray. The other is the Supreme Court too although has imposed stay on further felling of trees, has not imposed any stay on the construction work of the Metro 3 car depot.

In a statement released here on Friday, the MMRCL listed out some major achievements it accomplished and success for Metro 3 in 2019. In the major targets listed out for the year 2020, the two major targets include completion of 100 percent Tunneling work by September 2020 and arrival of the first rolling stock by December 2020. The tunneling work may not be a problem, but there is a huge question mark as to where to keep the rolling stock if the Metro 3 car shed is not ready by December 2020.

Besides this, in the case of In-situ (on site) development, the tender for first rehab building K3 (at Kalbadevi) is expected to be awarded in the month of January 2020 and G3 building (at Girgaum) tender will be awarded in the month of May 2020. Inviting bids for “Operations & Maintenance” work is expected in the month of February 2020.

Notwithstanding the stay imposed by the Chief Minister and the SC, the signing and effectuation of 3rd tranche (installment) loan by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is expected by March 2020. The Track laying work for the main line will be commenced by then, while the completion of 70 percent of civil work is expected to be completed in 2020.

Backfilling of cut and cover stations, restoration of station areas and station finishes would be in progress. Designs for all the major systems contracts will be completed and Vendors, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for their various sub-systems will be finalized

The construction of Ancillary buildings at some stations will be in progress and completed during the course of 2020. Besides this, the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) work which includes lighting of tunnel, station, installation of fire-fighting equipment and other works will be executed along with civil works.
