Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls, urging residents to verify their names as well as their parents’ names on the 2002 voter list.
The move mirrors a similar exercise in Bihar, where voters were recently asked to confirm their entries against the 2003 rolls and submit supporting documents if discrepancies were found.
What Voters Need to Do
According to the office of Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO):
If your name is already on the 2002 list – you only need to submit an enumeration form along with a copy of that entry.
If your name is missing, but your parents are listed – you must provide extra documentation, including identity proof and an extract of your parents’ names from the 2002 rolls.
Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) will soon begin house-to-house (H2H) visits to collect the forms and guide residents through the process.

To simplify verification, the Election Commission has updated its website with:
A searchable copy of the 2002 voter list, accessible through voter ID details.
A dedicated SIR section, which also explains boundary changes in assembly constituencies that happened after delimitation.
A Nationwide Exercise
Delhi’s revision is part of a larger, nationwide effort to clean up and modernize voter records. West Bengal, where elections are expected next year, has also started preparations.
In Bihar, however, the process has become politically charged. Opposition parties have accused the ruling BJP of using the revision to disenfranchise marginalized voters, citing the demand for extra documents as a barrier. The ECI has pushed back, insisting that the SIR is meant to ensure accuracy and fairness in the rolls.
The outcome of the Bihar revision has already reduced the official voter count from 7.9 crore to 7.24 crore, sparking intense debate.
