Delhi high alert Red Fort security intelligence blast threat 2026

Delhi: Security agencies in the national capital have intensified vigilance after receiving intelligence alerts indicating a potential explosive threat in central Delhi. Officials have ramped up monitoring in and around the historic Red Fort area, with particular focus on densely populated zones in north Delhi.

Law enforcement sources say the warning has prompted a swift response, including increased deployment of police and paramilitary forces, enhanced CCTV surveillance, and stricter checks at strategic locations.

Chandni Chowk Temple Flagged as Possible Target

According to information accessed by NDTV, intelligence agencies have flagged a temple in the Chandni Chowk locality as a possible target. While no suspicious object or activity has been detected so far, authorities are treating the input as credible and have moved to prevent any untoward incident.

Security teams are maintaining a visible presence in markets, religious places, and tourist-heavy zones to deter potential threats.

Lashkar-e-Taiba Under Suspicion

Preliminary assessments suggest the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based terror outfit banned in India. Intelligence officials believe the group may be attempting to plan an improvised explosive device (IED) attack as part of a broader strategy to execute a major strike.

Investigators are also examining whether the alert is connected to cross-border terror networks or sleeper cells operating within the country.

Possible Retaliation Angle Being Probed

Agencies are analysing reports that link the suspected threat to a blast that took place at a mosque in Islamabad earlier this month. Officials are exploring whether the Delhi alert could be a retaliatory move, though no official confirmation has been issued yet.

Nationwide Vigil at Religious Sites

Beyond Delhi, security advisories have been issued to states across India warning of potential threats to major temples and religious landmarks. Police forces nationwide have been instructed to step up patrolling, especially at locations that attract large crowds.

Public Asked to Stay Alert

In Delhi, bomb disposal squads, dog units, and quick reaction teams have been placed on standby. Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and immediately inform the police about any unattended items or suspicious behaviour.
