New Delhi: The political landscape of the capital shifted once again as results for the 2025 Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) by-elections were announced on Wednesday, concluding a fiercely contested battle across 12 wards. These bypolls were held to fill seats vacated by councillors who moved on to the Delhi Assembly or Parliament—turning the election into a mini-referendum on the performance of major political parties.

Emerging as the undisputed frontrunner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a commanding lead with decisive victories in multiple key wards, reinforcing its organizational strength across Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to retain pockets of influence, while the Congress and All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) also made their mark with notable wins.

Ward-wise Highlights

  • Mundka: AAP’s Anil bagged the seat with a comfortable 1,577-vote victory, helping the party maintain its foothold in northwest Delhi.
  • Shalimar Bagh-B: BJP’s Anita Jain registered one of the biggest wins of the day, claiming the ward with an emphatic 10,101-vote margin.
  • Ashok Vihar: In one of the closest contests, BJP’s Veena Asija edged out her rivals by just 405 votes, reflecting the intense competition in several wards.
  • Chandni Chowk: BJP’s Suman Kumar Gupta sealed a solid 1,182-vote victory in the high-profile Old Delhi constituency.
  • Chandni Mahal: The surprise of the election came here, where AIFB’s Mohd Imran secured a significant 4,692-vote win—highlighting the influence of smaller parties.
  • Dwarka-B: Another massive win for the BJP, with Manisha Devi leading the ward by 9,100 votes.
  • Dichaon Kalan: BJP continued its winning streak with Rekha Rani, who claimed the ward with a 5,637-vote margin.
  • Naraina: AAP’s Rajan Arora pulled off a razor-thin victory of 148 votes, illustrating a tight urban contest.
  • Sangam Vihar-A: Congress made a comeback as Suresh Choudhary won by 3,628 votes, reaffirming the party’s micro-level strength.
  • Dakshinpuri: AAP’s Ram Swaroop Kanojia won by 226 votes, underscoring the party’s influence in south Delhi.
  • Greater Kailash: BJP’s Anjum Mandal captured the upscale ward with a 4,065-vote victory.
