New Delhi: The Delhi High Court division bench on Monday granted interim bail to Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar to undergo cataract surgery at AIIMS on February 4.
The bench, led by Justice Yashwant Varma, directed Sengar to get admitted to AIIMS on February 4 and surrender the next day. Senior counsel Manish Vasisth, representing Sengar, informed the court that he had received an appointment for the procedure.
Sengar was previously scheduled for cataract surgery on January 24 but surrendered as the operating doctor was unavailable. Earlier, he was granted interim bail on December 20, 2024, on medical grounds due to multiple ailments.
Sengar is serving a life sentence for raping a minor in Unnao and a 10-year sentence for the custodial death of the minor victim’s father. He has been in custody since April 13, 2018, with his appeals pending before the Delhi High Court.
