New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the party of resorting to “desperate and unfair tactics” as it faces a “historic loss” in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. At a press conference, Atishi alleged that the BJP is deliberately disrupting the capital’s water supply to manipulate public opinion in its favor.

“The BJP is heading towards a historic loss in Delhi, and in its panic, it is taking desperate measures like stopping the water supply,” Atishi said. She specifically accused the BJP of collaborating with Haryana to drain industrial waste into the Yamuna River, an act she claimed is intentionally harming the people of Delhi. Atishi stated that this has led to an unprecedented rise in ammonia levels in the Yamuna water, with the concentration reaching a dangerous 7.2 ppm, causing severe disruptions to the city’s water treatment plants.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal also voiced strong criticism, expressing his concern over the contaminated water being supplied to Delhiites. In a post on X, Kejriwal condemned the BJP’s alleged role in mixing “poison” into the Yamuna water, calling it “the biggest sin” and accusing the BJP of endangering the lives of Delhi’s residents for political gain.

“There is no bigger sin than making people go thirsty,” Kejriwal wrote, adding that the contaminated water could not even be purified by the water treatment plants. “For the safety of the people of Delhi, the water supply has to be stopped in many areas.” Kejriwal further stressed that the AAP would do everything in its power to protect citizens, while accusing the BJP of attempting a “mass murder” through its alleged actions.
