New Delhi: In a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, four of its prominent leaders, including two municipal councillors, switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. The defections are seen as a major shakeup as the political temperature in the national capital intensifies in the lead-up to the elections.

Among the leaders who joined the BJP were former Ghonda MLA Shridutt Sharma, along with municipal councillors Rekha Rani from Bhajanpura and Shilpa Kaur from Khyala. Sridutt Sharma, who served as an MLA for Ghonda from 2015 to 2020, was a significant figure in AAP’s Delhi unit. Alongside them, Chaudhary Vijendra, who had served as parliamentary representative of AAP MP Sanjay Singh, also made the switch to the BJP.

The move comes as Delhi’s political landscape remains fluid, with the ruling AAP, opposition BJP, and Congress leaving no stone unturned to secure an edge in the upcoming elections. Political affiliations have been shifting rapidly, with many leaders opting for strategic alliances as they prepare for the battle.
