Delhi: The Uttarakhand Police have intensified efforts to capture the sixth accused in the murder of 24-year-old Angel Chakma, a Tripura native studying MBA in Dehradun. Angel was fatally attacked on December 9 in Selakui market by six individuals, including 22-year-old Suraj Khawas, during a heated argument. He succumbed to his injuries on December 26.

So far, five of the accused have been apprehended, but Yagyaraj Awasthi, a resident of Kanchanpur district in Nepal, remains on the run. Authorities have offered a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his arrest and have dispatched a police team to Nepal to track him down.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami vowed strict action against all involved, stating, “Those who play with law and order should not expect any mercy. Unruly elements will not be spared.” Police have been instructed to expedite the arrest of the absconding suspect.

Angel’s father, Tarun Chakma, a BSF jawan, alleged delays in filing the FIR and demanded stringent punishment for the attackers. Police, however, denied delays, confirming that Angel’s case is registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder and joint liability. ADGP (Law & Order) Dr. V. Murugesan stated, “Strict action will be taken against all criminals who violate the law. The argument escalated tragically, leading to the student’s death.”

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held talks with Dhami and assured the victim’s family of full support. Saha confirmed the arrest of five individuals and emphasized that the remaining accused will be apprehended soon.
