New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to chair an all-party meeting on Thursday evening to brief political leaders about the devastating terror attack that took place in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday. The attack, attributed to The Resistance Front terror group, claimed the lives of 26 people and left several others injured.

The decision to convene the all-party meeting was made on Wednesday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expected to attend the briefing.

According to sources familiar with the developments, the NDA ally Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) will not be attending the meeting, which is scheduled for 6 pm. However, the party has expressed its support for any decision the government decides to take. JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha clarified that party leaders would be in Madhubani, Bihar, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled programs on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Divas.

In the wake of the tragic attack, India took further steps to downgrade its already strained diplomatic relations with Pakistan. On Wednesday, the government announced a series of countermeasures, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty (1960), closure of the Attari-Wagah border, and the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches.
