Selu, Parbhani: The rise of far-right imperialist powers, epitomised by Donald Trump, has had a profound impact on global politics, fostering genocidal wars and strengthening right-wing forces worldwide. However, left-wing movements have continued to resist and secure victories, particularly in Latin America and Sri Lanka. Addressing the inaugural session of the 24th State Conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Selu, Parbhani, CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat underscored this global struggle and called for a renewed push against the neo-fascist, communal, casteist, and pro-corporate rule of the Modi-led RSS-BJP regime in India.
Karat emphasised the need for the Left and progressive forces to strengthen their independent base while simultaneously uniting with all secular forces to defeat the RSS-BJP’s divisive politics. He detailed the struggles waged by the CPI(M) across the country and urged for their expansion to counter the growing right-wing hegemony.
The conference began with great enthusiasm, with senior CPI(M) leaders Narasayya Adam, Udayan Sharma, Datta Mane, and Shivgonda Khot (all aged 80-82 years) hoisting the party flag. CPI(M) Coordinator Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau Members Nilotpal Basu, Dr Ashok Dhawale, and other delegates paid floral tributes to the martyrs. Revolutionary songs by Praja Natya Mandal from Solapur set the tone for the gathering.
CPI(M) Parbhani district secretary Uddhav Poul highlighted the rich history of Left movements in Selu, Parbhani, and the Marathwada region, followed by a welcome address from Prof U R Thombal.
The session concluded with presidential remarks by State Secretary Dr Uday Narkar, who declared, “The freedom that communists fight for is human freedom. Our struggle extends from Gaza to Parbhani.” He strongly condemned the custodial murder of Somnath Suryavanshi in Parbhani and the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, Sarpanch of Masajog in Beed, which occurred soon after the BJP-led state government assumed power. He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Renaming movement and the Hyderabad Liberation Struggle against the Nizam.
