Sanju Leads the Charge as CSK Rise from the Ashes Against DC

Chennai: Saturday night, the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium resembled a vibrant festival rather than a cricket ground. The yellow stands, unwavering despite three defeats, came alive with hope once again, as fans chose belief over doubt and loyalty over disappointment. And what Chennai Super Kings offered them in return was nothing short of a feast.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs to register their first victory of IPL 2026 on Saturday. At the heart of this resurgence stood two figures — Sanju Samson and Jamie Overton — on whose shoulders Chennai quietly rebuilt their night. With composure and purpose, they steered the team out of uncertainty, shaping a performance that was as measured as it was decisive.

It was a night where the bitterness of defeat gave way to the sweetness of redemption, an announcement not quietly but with a flourish, almost like fireworks lighting up the sky. Against Delhi Capitals, the victory was not just a win. It was a return to identity, to belief, and to the rhythm that has always defined Chennai Super Kings.

The Turning Point: Sanju’s Masterclass

Sanju Samson led from the front and scored a stunning century, which defined the night. It was CSK’s first century of the season and the first by any batter in this IPL season.

It was not just about the runs, but also the manner in which they came. Calm at the start, calculated in the middle, and explosive towards the end, Sanju paced his innings to perfection. He absorbed pressure early, rotated strike smartly, and then shifted gears with effortless power. His knock didn’t just build a total; it rebuilt CSK’s confidence.

Around that brilliance, the rest of the batting lineup performed strongly. Sanju Samson scored 115 not out from 56 balls, while Ayush Mhatre added 59 off 36. Samson hit four sixes and 15 fours in his blistering knock. In the top order, Sanju and Ruturaj formed a key 62-run partnership in the powerplay. Ayush Mhatre then injected momentum in the middle overs, forming a 113-run partnership with Sanju. Shivam Dube delivered the final blows (20 runs) in the death overs, helping CSK reach a commanding total of 212.

Bowling That Sealed the Game

If the batting set it up, the bowlers finished it clinically. Jamie Overton took the lead with his aggressive and controlled approach, striking early and putting DC under pressure. In the chase, Delhi were bowled out for 189, with Overton returning figures of 4 for 18.

Anshul Kamboj impressed with his discipline and accuracy, maintaining tight lines and building pressure through the middle overs. Mukesh Singh added crucial breakthroughs, ensuring that partnerships never developed for Delhi. Together, the bowling unit showed clarity, execution, and composure — something CSK had been searching for during their losing run.

There was also noticeable sharpness in the field. CSK were faster, more alert, and significantly more committed. The fielders, including Sarfaraz Khan’s incredible catch, saved vital runs, took their chances, and supported their bowlers at every turn, transforming small moments into game-changing ones.

This victory means more than just two points. It ends a three-match losing streak. It restores faith. It re-establishes CSK as a team that cannot be underestimated.

After weeks of frustration, Chennai Super Kings have finally found their rhythm. Sanju’s century, a collective batting effort, disciplined bowling led by Overton, Kamboj, and Singh, and sharp fielding provided the complete performance they required.

The losing streak is over. And Chennai once again appears to be a team on the rise.
