The number of corona cases in Mumbai has been on the rise in the last few days. Against this backdrop, Mumbai Municipal Corporation has appealed to Mumbaikars to remain careful and avoid overcrowding and lax adherence to Covid safety protocol during ongoing and upcoming festive season. The BMC has also asked people who have come in contact with corona infections and developed symptoms of corona to undertake Covid tests immediately. BMC has 260 test centers where free of cost covid tests are being conducted.
News agency correspondent reports that amidst festive season and opening up of most sectors, Mumbai is witnessing marginal rise in daily covid count. For the fifth time in the last 10 days, the city’s daily Covid case count was above 500. The city registered 523 cases and three covid deaths yesterday. As per BMC data, city’s daily count was below 400 only on October 4 with 341 cases. While On October 6 the city has recorded 621 cases in a day- highest daily count since July 14. However, city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 percent. While the daily positivity rate in the city also continued to be around 1.2%.
The weekly growth rate in some wards has fallen from 0.1% to 0.09%. Speaking about the same, Brihanmumbai additional commissioner Suresh Kakani has said that the spurt in covid cases reasons mostly due to lockdown relaxation, increased free movement, frequent socialisation as part of ongoing festivities and all this resulting in overcrowding. He added that also, the number of people coming into the city has gone up in recent weeks. He however stated that the number of people getting admitted to hospital in critical condition has not gone up and the situation is completely under control.
