A startling video capturing the chilling moment of the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency, has recently surfaced, igniting a fresh wave of controversy. According to a report by Canada-based CBC News, Nijjar was fatally shot by armed assailants in what is being labeled as a ‘contract killing’ outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.

The video, obtained by The Fifth Estate and authenticated by multiple sources, sheds light on the highly coordinated attack involving six assailants and two vehicles. It portrays Nijjar exiting the Gurdwara premises in his grey Dodge Ram pickup truck before being ambushed by gunmen who swiftly flee the scene in a silver Toyota Camry.

Eyewitnesses to the harrowing incident, Bhupinderjit Singh Sidhu and Malkit Singh, recounted the chaotic moments following the gunfire. Sidhu described how they rushed towards the source of the gunshots and attempted to pursue the assailants, while Malkit Singh vividly recalled the pungent odor of gun smoke lingering in the air as the perpetrators made their escape.

Despite the passage of nearly nine months, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has yet to name any suspects or make arrests in connection with Nijjar’s assassination. The lack of progress in the investigation has only intensified the diplomatic rift between Canada and India, sparked by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s pointed accusations of Indian involvement in the killing.

Trudeau’s allegations, made in September of the previous year, were promptly dismissed by Indian authorities as baseless and unfounded. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated India’s denial of any involvement in Nijjar’s death, labeling the allegations as “absurd and motivated” and highlighting Canada’s failure to provide substantial evidence to support its claims.

As the investigation into Nijjar’s assassination continues to unfold, the controversy surrounding his death serves as a poignant reminder of the complex dynamics between nations and the far-reaching implications of geopolitical tensions on matters of justice and security.
