Uttar Pradesh: As the 2025 Mahakumbh in Prayagraj approaches, controversy is already brewing with the emergence of provocative slogans. Posters bearing the phrase “Darenge Toh Marenge” (If You Fear, You Die) have appeared at prominent locations in the city, sparking a political and social debate. The slogan, attributed to Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, has added a contentious layer to the discourse surrounding the grand religious event, which begins on Pausha Purnima (January 13, 2025).

This development follows Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s earlier slogan, “Batenge Toh Katenge” (If We Divide, We Perish), introduced during an August 26 speech in Agra. The Chief Minister had emphasized unity while addressing issues faced by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. His sentiment was later echoed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an October 5 address.

The latest posters, prominently displayed near landmarks such as the Nag Vasuki temple, carry an image of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya, founder of the Vaishnava South Peeth in Nanij Dham. Known for his bold campaigns, the spiritual leader previously led efforts advocating for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya ahead of the 2019 Kumbh. His current slogan has reignited discussions on social and religious unity, with critics questioning whether such rhetoric aligns with the event’s spiritual purpose.
