Noida: In a chilling act of violence fuelled by suspicion, a 55-year-old man in Noida’s Sector 15 bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer and then walked over two kilometres to the nearest police station to confess to the crime, according to senior police officers.

The accused, Noor-ul-lah Haider, a computer engineering graduate, suspected his wife, 42-year-old Asma Khan, of having an extramarital affair. The couple had reportedly been arguing through the night, with tensions peaking on Friday afternoon. Around noon, Haider allegedly locked their bedroom door, smothered Asma with a pillow to muffle her screams, and struck her multiple times on the head with a hammer until she died.

Asma Khan worked as a civil engineer at a private firm in Noida’s Sector 62. She lived with her husband and their two children—19-year-old Samad, a BTech student at Amity University, and 12-year-old Inaya—in a two-storey residence in Block C of Sector 15.

The horror came to light when Samad called his aunt Farida around 1 pm. “He informed my wife that his mother was dead. When she asked how, Samad said his father had killed her, and she was lying in a pool of blood,” said Nadeem, Farida’s husband and a resident of Delhi’s Jamia Nagar.

Nadeem added, “By the time we reached Noida, the police were already present. It’s suspected that Noor-ul-lah muffled her face with a pillow before striking her multiple times with a hammer.”

Family members revealed that Asma and Haider had been embroiled in frequent quarrels over the past several days. At around 5 am on Friday, Asma had even called her sister, pleading for help amid the escalating argument.
