Mumbai: Congress MP Prof. Varsha Gaikwad has strongly criticized Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane for his recent statement, calling it a direct threat to democracy and a mockery of constitutional rights.
“In a democracy, every citizen has the right to choose their leadership and elect their representatives. Nitesh Rane’s statement not only undermines this fundamental right but also serves as an open threat—suggesting that financial aid will be given only if people join his party. This is not just a reflection of a dangerous ideology but also an attempt to intimidate voters by implying that exercising their constitutional right will lead to punishment,” Gaikwad said.
She further pointed out that such remarks violate the oath of impartiality taken by ministers under the Constitution. “This is not the first time Nitesh Rane has made such threats. Has he been instructed to issue such statements by his ‘Aaka’ (boss) at Meghdoot Bungalow? If not, will his leader take any action against this foul-mouthed minister?” she questioned.
Gaikwad’s criticism comes in response to Rane’s controversial statement, which she believes not only goes against democratic principles but also sets a dangerous precedent. She called on the leadership to take strict action against such unconstitutional behaviour.
In a recent statement, Maharashtra BJP MLA and Minister Nitesh Rane allegedly threatened to withhold development funds from constituents unless they joined his party. This remark has been widely criticized as an attempt to coerce voters and undermine their constitutional rights. Such statements not only challenge the democratic principle of free choice but also raise concerns about the misuse of political power to influence electoral outcomes.
