Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Reveals Why His Wife Worked in Pakistan

New Delhi: Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi has responded sharply to a tweet by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who raised questions over Gogoi’s wife’s past professional engagement in Pakistan.

In his clarification, Gogoi explained that the work in question was part of an international climate change initiative nearly 15 years ago. “About 14-15 years ago, my wife, who is a well-known expert in public policy, worked on an international project in South Asia focused on climate change. She spent one year there, including some time in Pakistan, before returning to India around 2012-13,” he said.

He added that since then, his wife has continued her professional journey and took a new job in 2015. Recalling his brief personal visit, Gogoi noted, “I also remember going with her once around 2013.”

Dismissing the political noise around the issue, Gogoi accused the BJP of attempting to malign his family. “So they are making issue of it as their work is only demeaning, and that’s why they are creating this whole thing like a C-grade Bollywood movie,” he said.
