Bogotá: A campaign event in Colombia’s capital turned into chaos and heartbreak on Saturday, June 7, when 2026 presidential candidate and sitting Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot multiple times during a rally.
The 39-year-old, a prominent figure in the conservative Democratic Centre party, was addressing a crowd of supporters in Bogotá when gunfire erupted. According to eyewitnesses, the senator was struck in the head and back by bullets before collapsing on stage. Security personnel and emergency responders quickly intervened, rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed that a 15-year-old suspect has been apprehended in connection with the attack. Law enforcement officials are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
