Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday paid a resounding tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, highlighting the Maratha legend’s unwavering courage and determination in establishing Swaraj. Shah’s remarks came during an event in Maharashtra, where he underscored the immense contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to India’s freedom struggle.
In his speech, Shah reflected on the trials faced by Shivaji, stating, “Neither luck was with him, nor the past, neither did he have money nor an army. A child with his indomitable courage and determination gave the mantra of Swaraj to the entire country.” Shah emphasized the legacy of Shivaji, who, despite lacking resources, tore down the two-century-long Mughal rule and liberated India from foreign dominance.
Shah went on to praise the enduring impact of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s vision on the modern Indian state, adding, “In no time, he shattered the 200-year-old Mughal rule and freed the country….” He connected the Maratha warrior’s dream of sovereignty to India’s present-day aspirations, stating, “Today, after 75 years of independence, we stand before the world with our heads held high. We pledge that when we complete 100 years of independence, our India will be number 1 in the world, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had laid down his basic vision.”
As India moves towards completing its centenary of independence in 2047, Amit Shah’s call for India to become the global leader aligns with the government’s ambitious vision of national progress. His statement serves not only as a tribute to the Maratha hero but also as a commitment to upholding and building on the foundational principles of Swaraj laid down by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
