Mumbai: Senior NCP leader and veteran OBC face Chhagan Bhujbal will take oath as a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held at Raj Bhavan at 10 AM.

Bhujbal is being inducted in place of Dhananjay Munde, who had earlier resigned from the cabinet, vacating a berth from the Ajit Pawar-led NCP quota. Munde, a prominent leader from the Vanjari (OBC) community, is being replaced by Bhujbal, a seasoned Mali community leader, known for his decades-long advocacy for OBC rights and representation.

Bhujbal, who has previously held key portfolios including PWD and Food & Civil Supplies, brings with him vast administrative experience and political heft. His return to the cabinet is seen as a strategic move by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to consolidate OBC support ahead of upcoming civic and assembly elections.

This development comes amid NCP’s renewed efforts to strengthen its social engineering strategy and reinforce its base among backward communities, especially in the Marathwada and North Maharashtra regions where Bhujbal has significant influence.
