Chhagan Bhujbal Backs Modi’s Call for Swadeshi Amid US Tariff Hike, Reflects on August Kranti Diwas

Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to adopt swadeshi products in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods.

“Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also sending a message that when countries like the U.S. act unjustly, we should not back down, and he has called for adopting swadeshi products,” Bhujbal said, stressing the need for India to strengthen its self-reliance and domestic manufacturing.

The comment came as the U.S. imposed the steep tariff following India’s continued purchase of Russian oil, sparking global discussions on trade and geopolitical strategies.

Earlier, during the August Kranti Diwas celebrations in Mumbai, Bhujbal reflected on India’s journey from colonial rule to independence, highlighting the freedoms citizens now enjoy. “Today we are free — we can speak, write, deliver speeches, work in jobs or businesses, and build homes freely. But before independence, this was not possible,” he said, reminding people of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
