Central Kashmir: Gunfight breaks out in Budgam between militants and security forces

Srinagar:  Gunfight breaks out between militants and government forces in Charar-i- Sharief area of in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday.

According to the reports reaching Srinagar, a joint team of Police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Charar –i-Sharief area.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot the militants who were in the hiding fired upon them. The gun fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed to thenews21 the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants. As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be holed up in the location. The operation to flush out the holed out militants was underway at the time of going to the press. More details are awaited.
