New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the first budget of the newly elected BJP government on Tuesday, unveiling a record-breaking ₹1 lakh crore budget, the largest in the capital’s history. Calling it a historic moment, she emphasized that this budget would reshape Delhi’s future and align it with the vision of Viksit Delhi.
“This Budget is not just a presentation of government expenses but a Budget to bring a turnaround in the city’s fortunes and align it on the path of Viksit Delhi. This Budget is focused on making Delhi a Sangam of glorious history and a bright future,” said CM Rekha Gupta during her address in the Assembly.
The budget, inspired by the principles of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas’.
Taking a sharp dig at the previous AAP-led Delhi government, CM Gupta criticized the last 10 years of governance, stating, “It is unfortunate that in the last 10 years, Delhi kept sliding back in every aspect of development.” She highlighted issues such as poorly maintained roads, a failing drainage system, and rising pollution, blaming the mismanagement of Delhi Jal Board, DTC, and other government institutions for financial losses.
“The previous government acted like a termite for Delhi’s economy,” she remarked, calling the current state of affairs a challenge for the new administration.
Earlier in the day, she likened the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years to Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget after 27 years. Just as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, we are returning after 27 years,” she said.
