New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament commenced on Friday, with the government outlining its legislative agenda, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, while the opposition raised key issues such as price rise and unemployment.
The session began with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses, setting the tone for the government’s policy direction. The Economic Survey was also tabled ahead of the Union Budget presentation on Saturday.
Following an all-party meeting, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari accused the government of failing on the economic front and undermining constitutional values. He alleged that the BJP government is systematically eroding traditions, citing concerns over the handling of the Kumbh Mela stampede and controversies surrounding Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. He also criticized the One Nation, One Election committee, alleging that its composition was biased in favor of the ruling party.
Meanwhile, BJD MP Sasmit Patra emphasized his party’s demand for special category status for Odisha, reminding the BJP of its 2014 manifesto promise. He questioned why the “double-engine government” had failed to fulfill this commitment despite ruling at both the Centre and in Odisha.
With political tensions high and economic expectations soaring, the Budget Session 2025 is expected to witness heated debates over governance, financial policies, and legislative priorities.
