Mumbai:The Bombay High Court has given the Shiv Sena time until April 16 to respond in connection with comedian Kunal Kamra’s petition seeking the cancellation of an FIR filed against him by the party.

Kamra’s counsel informed the court that the comedian has been receiving death threats, prompting a request for virtual attendance in future hearings. The court acknowledged the concern and said it would consider allowing Kamra to appear via video conference in the next hearing.

Kunal Kamra had approached the High Court to quash an FIR registered by the Shiv Sena, which alleges that the comedian’s remarks were offensive and inflammatory. The case, which has drawn attention from across the political and artistic spectrum, is being closely watched due to its implications for freedom of expression.

The court has begun hearing the matter and indicated that it would examine the merits of the petition along with Kamra’s safety concerns. The matter will now be taken up on April 16.
