Mumbai: Despite the order coming directly from the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray to take action against the illegal encroachments in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to raze the illegal constructions in the city said leader of opposition and Congress group leader Ravi Raja.
Raja has raised questions on BMC municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal on the workings of the corporation as he had failed to act on the orders of the CM to act against the illegal constructions.
Raja had written a letter to Chahal and informed the latter about the various irregularities in the city and demanded to sack the officials involved with the illegal encroachers. Talking about the illegal constructions in the city, Raja mentioned about the (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development) MHADA building in the jurisdiction of K ward of the BMC.

According to Raja, he has received a letter regarding commercially using MHADA building for running hotel and restaurant with the illegal installation of huge air condition units, chimneys and other illegal construction and alterations in the walls and washrooms done in the MHADA.
After the complaint lodged with the BMC, the license was revoked last year but again the licence has been issued to the hotelier by the BMC.
“When Maharashtra CM has already given order to take action against the illegal construction then too BMC is failing to act up on. Not all but a few DMC (Deputy Municipal Commissioners) are working hand in glove with the illegal encroachers”.
“During the pandemic period total 84,364 complaints have been received by the BMC but action has been taken on only 5 per cent of the complaints received,” added Raja.
