Mumbai: Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a brief protest on Saturday by showing black flags to Rahul Gandhi as his convoy passed through Mumbai.

The incident took place near the Mulund toll plaza when Gandhi was travelling towards Thane and Bhiwandi. A small group of BJP workers gathered at the spot, waving black flags and holding posters opposing the Congress leader.

Police Act Quickly, Convoy Moves On

Police personnel deployed in the area intervened immediately after the protest began. They ensured that the demonstrators did not block the road or stop the convoy. The situation remained under control, and Gandhi’s convoy continued without delay.

No injuries or detentions were reported during the incident.

Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai for Court Appearance

Rahul Gandhi is in Mumbai to attend a hearing at a court in Bhiwandi in connection with a defamation case dating back to 2014. The case relates to remarks made about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi arrived at Mumbai airport, where he was welcomed by Congress workers and senior party leaders before leaving for Bhiwandi.

Legal Formalities to Be Completed

Confirming the court proceedings, Gandhi’s lawyer, Narayan Iyer, said the Congress leader would personally appear before the court to complete procedural requirements. This includes signing a fresh bond and submitting a new guarantor, as the earlier guarantor has passed away.

The lawyer explained that the case is currently at the evidence stage. One witness has already been cross-examined, while another witness’s cross-examination is still pending. Saturday’s hearing is expected to focus mainly on accepting the new guarantor, with no detailed arguments likely.
