Following in the footsteps of the successful ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign launched before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a new initiative called ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ (Modi’s family) ahead of the upcoming elections.

Key BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari, have changed their names on social media platforms to reflect their association with ‘Modi Ka Parivar’.

The genesis of this campaign can be traced back to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Telangana, where he extended the metaphor of a family to encompass all 140 crore citizens of India. He declared, “Today, crores of daughters, mothers, and sisters of the country are part of Modi’s family. Every underprivileged person in the nation is a member of my family. My India-My family.”

PM Modi’s remarks came in response to personal attacks made by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav during a rally in Telangana. Yadav targeted PM Modi’s personal life and religion, prompting a swift response from the Prime Minister.

Yadav’s criticisms centered on the issue of dynastic politics, with pointed remarks about PM Modi’s family. He questioned the prime minister’s stance on dynastic politics, asking, “Modi ji, why did you not have a child? You don’t have a family.”

In response, PM Modi’s rebuttal has sparked a new trend on social media, with BJP supporters rallying behind him by adopting the ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ slogan on their social media profiles.

The ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ campaign is poised to be a central theme in the BJP’s election strategy, aiming to resonate with voters across the country and reinforce the image of PM Modi as a leader committed to serving all members of the Indian family, regardless of background or affiliation.
