Mumbai: Midway into the Kharif season, the district central co-operative banks and nationalised banks are delaying the disbursement of loans to the farmers and are unnecessarily harassing the farmers by demanding unnecessary documents, alleged Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha (BJPKM) state president Dr. Anil Bonde. He further warned the government that from Monday, August 10 onwards BJP workers will visit every bank to help farmers avail the benefits of loan disbursement.

Dr. Anil Bonde while talking to thenews21india said “The state government had declared a debt waiver but has failed miserably to implement it, so farmers have not been able to get crop loans. Those who have been given loan waivers and those who have old loans need only 7/12, 8’A’ (land extract and crop sowing records) and Aadhar cards for crop loans as per the Collector’s order. However, this year, even after checking the loan waiver lists, the banks are demanding unnecessary documents such as asking farmers to pay interest, farm papers, alterations, no-objection certificates. Time is running out while collecting all these documents.”

In Amaravati division, loan disbursement of Rs.2,201 crore was expected from District Central Co-operative Bank. However, loan to the tune of Rs.1,351 crore has been disbursed. Amaravati District Co-operative Bank has disbursed only 33% of the amount. In Amaravati division, the nationalized bank has set a target of Rs.5,974 crore. Of this, only Rs 1,834 crore has been allocated. In Amaravati division, only 30% of loans have been disbursed by nationalized banks. In Amaravati district, only 23% of loans have been disbursed by nationalized banks, he claimed.

BJP workers will take the initiative to facilitate loans to farmers by holding peaceful sit-ins in every district and nationalized bank from Monday.

As per the government, out of total Rs 43,000 crore, the nationalized banks disbursed Rs 2,300 crore against the given target of Rs 32,161 crore while district and co-operative banks disbursed Rs 6258 crore against the target of Rs 13,524 crore. It shows that the nationalized banks have disbursed a total 7 percent of crop loan while the district and co-operative banks have disbursed 46 percent of the amount, the government officer claimed.

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had called the meeting of the banks and other stakeholders and asked to disburse the loan to all farmers. Thackeray had also taken the guarantee of the farmers who were on the defaulter list of the banks. In Western Maharashtra, the crop loan disbursement has been happening effectively, while in Marathwada and Vidarbha, it has been slow pace. The banks are dilly-dallying to offer the crop loan to farmers who are in trouble due to lockdown.

Bonde said that despite loan waiver banks are asking farmers to pay the interest, this is illegal and BJP Kisan Morcha will not allow this type of extortion from banks. Actually the government does not have any control over banks or administration that is the reason why we are forced to do sit-ins in banks to get justice to farmers.
