New Delhi: The oath-taking ceremony for Delhi’s new Chief Minister is expected to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his visit to the United States on February 13. The event is set to be a grand affair, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power in the national capital after 27 years. As per reports, Chief Ministers from all NDA-ruled states are likely to attend the event.

While the BJP has not yet announced its choice for Chief Minister, reports suggest that Parvesh Verma, the newly elected MLA from New Delhi, is the frontrunner for the top post. Verma made headlines by defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly constituency by a margin of 4,000 votes. A two-time former MP from West Delhi, he was denied a parliamentary election ticket last year but made a strong political comeback in the assembly polls. He is the son of late Sahib Singh Verma, who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998.

Following his victory, Verma paid floral tribute to his father at Dr Sahib Singh Verma Samadhi Sthal in Mundka, West Delhi.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to meet BJP national president JP Nadda today to discuss government formation in Delhi, as per a report by NDTV. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva will also convene a meeting with the party’s 48 newly elected MLAs later in the evening.
