As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 gathers momentum, the announcement of the notification for the second phase looms large. However, amidst the preparations, the Mahayuti alliance continues to grapple with unresolved rifts over seat allocation, casting a shadow over the grand coalition’s unity.

A significant development emerges from the Ratnagiri Sindhudurg Lok Sabha Constituency, where intensive discussions have been underway for several days. Sources from ABP News reveal that the constituency has now fallen into the hands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Union Minister Narayan Rane poised to contest the upcoming elections from this seat.

The decision to field Narayan Rane holds significance, especially considering the electoral history of the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency. Rane’s son, Nilesh Rane, secured victory from this constituency in 2009 but faced consecutive defeats in 2014 and 2019. Now, with Narayan Rane’s potential entry into the fray, the electoral reputation of the Rane family hangs in the balance.

Traditionally contested by the Shiv Sena, the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat has been a focal point of contention within the Mahayuti alliance. While Shiv Sena harbored aspirations to retain control over the constituency, Narayan Rane asserted the BJP’s claim to the seat. The final decision, however, rests with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as indicated by Minister Uday Samant in recent statements.

Amidst the tug-of-war over the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat, speculations abound regarding the allocation of other constituencies within the alliance. With the BJP securing Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, attention turns to potential seats earmarked for Shiv Sena, with indications suggesting that another seat, possibly Amravati, may be allocated to Chief Minister Shinde’s party.

The historical context of the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat, traditionally aligned with the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, adds complexity to the ongoing negotiations. Uday Samant, echoing Shiv Sena’s claims to the constituency, hinted at Eknath Shinde’s potential assertion over the seat. Intriguingly, discussions surrounding potential candidates have intensified, with reports suggesting meetings between Narayan Rane and Kiran Samant, indicating the BJP’s strategic move to consolidate its hold over the constituency.
