Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Mihir Kotecha has demanded filing of an First Information Report (FIR) against the Director of the Asha Cancer Trust & Research Centre (ACT&RC), employees of the centre and officers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) who are allegedly responsible for negligence which led to the deaths at the Jumbo Covid Care Centre in Mulund.
Kotecha claimed that the BMC has indicted the Asha Cancer Trust & Research Centre. The contract of the Asha Cancer Trust should not be renewed, he asked. He said he will send a letter to BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal in this regard.
Kotecha said that Asha Cancer Trust & Research Centre was given a contract to provide manpower to the 600 bedded Covid Care Centre in July this year. While awarding the contract, certain conditions were specified. However, the concerned officials learnt that the trust is not abiding to the conditions in the contract.

“There was 30 to 50 percent scarcity of doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff in the centre”, he said. Kotecha added that this eventually affected in providing service to the patients undergoing treatment at the centre.
The public representatives complained in this regard, he added, stating that it also came to light that the nurses in the centre were not fully trained. Also, the employees of the trust did not follow the guidelines of the Central Government on giving discharge to the patients. “The Centre was served notice by the assistant commissioner of the BMC when it came to know that patients who have cured were not given discharge and asked to stay put in the centre,” the MLA alleged.
He further alleged that some patients lost their lives and some of them were not given the crucial Remdesivir injection. While some were given the injection when there was no need for it. Besides, those who needed oxygen supplies were not provided the same. Besides this it also came to light that some patients were unnecessarily given oxygen supply. “On paper it was shown that some patients were given oxygen supply whereas in reality they were not,” he said.
