Mumbai: The winter session of the Maharashtra state legislature will be held in Mumbai instead of Nagpur on December 14 and December 15. A decision to this effect was taken during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai on Thursday. The official working days of the session have been curtailed in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic as a precautionary measure.
However, the Opposition BJP has expressed unhappiness over the decision. Leader of Opposition, in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis alleged that the state government did not seem interested in the session at all. He stated that the government’s move to hold just a two-day session which is not acceptable to the opposition.

He said the opposition had demanded at least a two-week session as there are so many pressing issues facing the state which they want to discuss and find solution to them. Fadnavis added that the first day of the Assembly session will be spent in passing and tabling agendas and there would be only one day left to discuss matters at length.
Meanwhile talking to media persons, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab said the situation in Maharashtra is not conducive enough for a longer duration Assembly session owing to Covid-19 restrictions. This is why it was decided that a two-day session would be held. He refused to comment on the charges levelled against the MVA government by the Opposition.
He informed that during the session tributes will be paid to the deceased members and condolences will be offered. After that, there will be discussions on supplementary demands.
