Bus engines and batteries are kept in working condition by the staff within depot across Mumbai
Mumbai: The deadly virus, corona has put every city into state of hibernation, however the government bodies across the country are using the lockdown period to good use and keeping transport system of the country well-oiled and ready to start after India wins fight against coronavirus.
After the announcement of lockdown from March 25, by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most of the government’s transport systems have been grounded.
Maharashtra is presently giving tough fight with the coronavirus, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking, the civic transport service on daily basis providing its services to essential services and are ferrying essential man-power staff across the city.
At the same time, the BEST is ensuring that its buses grounded, remain healthy and fit after the lockdown. The BEST has around 3500 buses including air-conditioned (AC) and ordinary buses. Out of these 3500, only 1100-1200 are operational in the city. Most of the BEST buses are stationed at various depots with in city and its suburban areas.
The BEST with its limited staff is ensuring that the engines and batteries of its stationery buses in depots remain active.
Manoj Varade, Public Relation Officer of BEST said, “It is tough time for the BEST and its staff. Our buses in lockdown running on roads are entangled in assisting the man power of essential services. However, the about 2400 buses are stationed at the depots like Colaba, Wadala, Tardeo , Majas and many more . The engine of vehicle is its life. We are ensuring that engines of buses, will last long to continue giving service to passengers after lockdown.”
