In a gruesome murder case that has shocked Bengaluru, the body of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi was discovered chopped into over 30 pieces and stored in a refrigerator at her Vyalikaval flat on September 21. Authorities have now identified a suspect believed to be in West Bengal, according to Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parmeshwar.

“There is information about a person from West Bengal being a suspect. Efforts are on to arrest him,” Parmeshwar revealed during a media interaction. However, when asked if anyone was in custody, he clarified, “No, there are suspects being questioned.”

Mahalakshmi, who had been living separately from her husband, resided in a one-bedroom apartment. After learning of the incident, her husband rushed to the scene.

The horrific discovery has raised concerns over women’s safety in the city. Addressing the issue, Home Minister Parmeshwar reassured the public that the government is taking all necessary measures, saying, “The Nirbhaya program is ongoing. We have installed CCTVs and are looking into other such measures to ensure safety.”

As the investigation continues, the case has sparked political controversy, with the opposition BJP demanding the resignation of Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, accusing him of irregularities in medical equipment procurement. When asked about the allegations, Parmeshwar responded, “I am unaware of this. Let us see.”

Authorities are now intensifying efforts to locate the suspect, and further details about the investigation are expected in the coming days.
