Bengaluru: Bengaluru witnessed a chilling crime when a 36-year-old techie, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, brutally murdered his wife, Gouri Anil Sambrekar, and stuffed her body in a suitcase before fleeing the city. However, in a swift and coordinated operation, police arrested Khedekar in Maharashtra within 24 hours of the crime.
Husband Confesses to Murder After Argument
According to police reports, the couple had recently moved from Mumbai to a rented house in Doddakammanahalli, near Hulimavu, Bengaluru. Khedekar, a project manager in a software firm, reportedly had an argument with his wife during dinner on Wednesday night, following which he stabbed her three times in a fit of rage.
After committing the crime, Khedekar left the house, but shockingly, he informed his landlord about the murder on Thursday evening around 5:30 PM. He admitted to the crime over a phone call before leaving Bengaluru. Alarmed, the landlord immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the scene.
Police Discover Body in Suitcase, Hunt for Accused Begins
Upon breaking into the couple’s first-floor rented apartment, police found Gouri’s lifeless body stuffed inside a suitcase. Bengaluru police quickly launched a manhunt, coordinating with Maharashtra Police to track the fugitive.
By 9:30 PM on Thursday, police arrested Khedekar while he was driving towards Pune. Reports indicate that he initially fled to Mumbai before being apprehended on his way back.
DCP Confirms Arrest, Postmortem Underway
Confirming the gruesome crime, Sara Fatima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bengaluru South-East Division, said:
“The body of a 32-year-old woman, Gouri Khedekar, was found near Ambedkar Apartment in Doddanekundi Village, Bengaluru. She was the wife of Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar. The body was found inside a suitcase. Both belonged to Maharashtra. The body has been sent for postmortem.”
A murder case has been registered at Hulimavu Police Station, and authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation into the motive behind the crime. Khedekar is expected to be brought back to Bengaluru on Friday for further legal proceedings.
Community in Shock as Investigation Continues
The murder has sent shockwaves across Bengaluru, with many questioning the underlying cause of the domestic dispute. As the investigation unfolds, police are also examining whether there were any previous instances of domestic violence in the couple’s relationship.
