Mumbai: The Bengal Club, Shivaji Park, will celebrate its landmark 90th Durga Puja (Dugotsob) from September 27 to October 2, 2025, with a unique blend of tradition, culture, and social causes. This year’s puja mandap will be themed on Operation Sindoor, symbolising the strength of India’s armed forces in the fight against evil. The pandal is designed by Bollywood art director Nilesh Choudhuri, with sound design by composer Ankur Tiwari. To complement the theme, a donation will be made in support of families of deceased soldiers.
Adding to its heritage, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, has officially recognised the puja’s cultural importance. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled on September 28.
For the first time, the Club has partnered with CRY – Child Rights and You. Children from CRY will participate in the inauguration, and an exhibition on the NGO’s work will be displayed inside the pandal. “This association enables us to reach many more people, raising awareness on child rights and the importance of empowering children for a better tomorrow,” said Kreeanne Rabadi, Regional Director, CRY–West.
Spanning 10,000 sq. ft. at Shivaji Park, the pandal will feature a 19-foot eco-friendly idol crafted by artisans from Bengal—the tallest idol in Mumbai this year. Adjacent spaces will host food stalls, handicraft exhibitions, and cultural performances. Daily rituals, bhog distribution, and evening Dhunuchi dance will continue the festive spirit.
Key highlights include:
• Sept. 26, 4 pm: Exclusive media photoshoot at the pandal.
• Sept. 27, 7 pm: Inauguration by Ashish Shelar, Minister for Culture and IT.
• Sept. 28: Plaque unveiling by Ministry of Tourism.
• Navami (Oct. 1): Kumari Puja, worship of 5-year-old Shrii Bannerjee.
• Dashami (Oct. 2): Community-wide Sindoor Utsav.
The celebration is expected to draw 8–9 lakh visitors over six days. With its heritage of over a century, the Bengal Club Shivaji Park continues to be a cultural landmark, combining devotion with social responsibility.
