Mumbai: A Thane magistrate’s inquiry into the death of the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case, Akshay Shinde, held five police personnel responsible for his death in custody. The report was submitted to the Bombay High Court. The court directed the state government to file an FIR against the five cops.
Notably, 24-year-old Shinde, who worked as a male attendant in the school, was arrested in August last year for allegedly sexually assaulting two young girls at a school in Maharshtra’s Badlapur. He was killed during a police shootout on September 24 when he was taken to a transit remand.
The Special Investigation team (SIT) probing the case, named Shinde as the main accused. The chargesheet also named the school’s headmaster and two members of the management for “failing to report” the sexual assault, as required under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
