Bahrain: In a striking statement during an all-party delegation visit to Bahrain, Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, said that Pakistan likely hosts more terrorists than the rest of the world combined.

Speaking to a news agency from Bahrain, Azad emphasized the strength of India’s unity in diversity while drawing a stark contrast with Pakistan’s fractured past.

“I am happy to see that it (Bahrain) looks like mini India. The people from every religion live here. There are no restrictions… Regarding our political intention, we might belong to different political parties in India, but here we come as Indians… Pakistan was formed on the basis of religion. However, eastern Pakistan (Bangladesh) and western Pakistan were not able to stay united… But in our country, people from all religions stay united. We live in peace and harmony… If we see, probably the number of terrorists that are living in Pakistan is more than the number of terrorists residing all over the world…” he said.

Azad is part of a multi-party Indian delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, currently on an official visit to the Gulf nation to strengthen diplomatic and people-to-people ties.

Adding weight to the counter-terrorism narrative, former Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who is also a member of the delegation, reaffirmed India and Bahrain’s strong anti-terrorism cooperation.

“We already have a dialogue on security with Bahrain. We signed an agreement on fighting terrorism with Bahrain in 2015. Subsequently, in 2019, we made the decision to establish a joint dialogue on security… The joint statement reflects a very strong commitment from both sides,” Shringla noted.

He added that regular communication between Indian and Bahraini security agencies will continue, with both nations committed to countering terrorism in all its forms.

“Obviously, diplomatic ties are very important… Bahrain’s willingness to cooperate with us in the fight against terrorism is a reaffirmation of shared values and regional stability,” Shringla stated.
