Awareness program on drug abuse organized at Boys Higher Secondary School, Handwara

Srinagar: In continuation to the drive against the menace of habit-forming drugs, Civil Defence organization Baramulla held awareness programme on basic life skill for success, substance use disorder organises an awareness program against drug abuse, the program was attended by large number of students from Boys Higher Secondary School at Handwara.

Chief warden Civil Defence, Baramulla, Dr Mir Anayat, Principal Boys higher secondary school Handwara Rafeeq Ahmad, Dr Reyaz Twaheedi also participated in the event. Dr Mir Anayat delivered an introductory lecture on substance dependence and substance abuse.

The speakers on the occasion deliberated on the ill-effects of drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drugs and other social evils in the district.

Principal Boys Higher Secondary School, Handwara, Rafeeq Ahmad said the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the drug menace.

More than 100 students participated in the event and vote of thanks was given by Principal Boys Higher Secondary School, Handwara, Rafeeq Ahmad to all the dignitaries, students and media fraternity.

He said that the purpose of conducting such seminars was to sensitize students regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse, find out the causes of drug addiction among youth besides discussing and working out ways to rehabilitate the drug affected.

Dr Mir Anayat advised the students to look at the brighter side of life and always have a positive lifestyle. Then can they resist themselves from habit forming substances. He said that parents, teachers and friends have a crucial role in desisting one from getting trapped into this plague by noticing early symptoms and counselling them accordingly.
