Lucknow: In a landmark step for India’s defence capabilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday inaugurated the first batch of BrahMos missiles produced at the BrahMos Aerospace unit in Lucknow, reinforcing the nation’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the minister on the occasion, marking a key milestone in indigenous missile production.

The event comes months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that BrahMos missiles, a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, would now be manufactured on Indian soil in Lucknow. Praising the air defence capabilities of India’s armed forces, PM Modi had earlier highlighted how the country’s missile systems and drones successfully countered threats during military operations, particularly the four-day Operation Sindoor.

“During Operation Sindoor, the world witnessed the strength and precision of our indigenous weaponry,” PM Modi had said at a public event in Varanasi. “Our air defence systems, drones, and BrahMos missiles have proven the resilience and self-reliance of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Manufacturing BrahMos in Lucknow is a testament to our commitment to strengthening India’s defence infrastructure.”

The BrahMos missile has already made a decisive impact in neutralising cross-border threats, targeting terrorist infrastructure and military installations during Operation Sindoor. Its precision strikes on Pakistani airbases and cantonments demonstrated India’s tactical prowess and strategic preparedness.

With the commencement of local manufacturing, India is set to enhance its defence readiness while reducing dependence on imports. Defence analysts note that this initiative not only boosts domestic defence production but also positions India as a global player in missile technology.

Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized, “The launch of these missiles from Lucknow is a proud moment for India. It reflects our technological advancement and strengthens our national security.”
