Srinagar: Hundreds of residents from Ashpora on Sunday protested over lack of public transport on local routes including Ashpora-Kralgund road in Handwara area.

According to local reports the agitated local residents blocked the road at Qaziabad area and raised slogans against authorities concerned for overlooking the issue.

The local residents accused the ARTO Kupwara of ‘not taking concrete steps like allocation of sumo stand’ to Ashpora, the protestors further said that despite regular appraisals the authority concerned is yet to resolve this long pending issue of the people.

“We are suffering a lot of hardships and appeal ARTO Kupwara to redress this issue on an urgent basis to mitigate the sufferings of people”, they said. The lack of public transport facilities in major and arterial routes in the area is causing great hardships to the locals as it also hinders transport of essential commodities in remote areas. The situation becomes all the more critical during the winter months.
