Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Pakistani and Bangladeshi refugees protesting against opposition leaders’ comments on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). “The courage of these Pakistanis? First, they infiltrated our country illegally and broke our laws. They should have been in jail. Do they have the audacity to protest and create chaos in our country?” he stated in a post on X.
Kejriwal further criticized the BJP, accusing them of pushing the nation into trouble by attempting to make refugees their vote bank. “After the implementation of CAA, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis will spread across the country and cause trouble. BJP is endangering the entire country for their selfish political interests,” he added.
On Thursday, Kejriwal questioned the refugees protesting his remarks on the CAA, stating that it was audacious for them to demand an apology from an elected CM. “Today, a few Pakistanis created chaos outside my house. They were given full respect and looked after by Delhi Police. The BJP also supported them. How dare they come to our country and demand an apology from a CM elected by the people of Delhi with a massive mandate? And the BJP supports them?” he questioned.
During the protest in Delhi against the INDIA bloc and Congress leaders, refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh breached barricades. Since the implementation of CAA rules, opposition leaders have criticized the government’s timing of the move.
Kejriwal warned that the CAA rules would lead to increased migration, potentially causing law and order issues such as thefts, robberies, and rapes. The CAA, introduced by the BJP-led Union government and passed by Parliament in 2019, aims to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014.
