‘Shifted With My Family’: Arvind Kejriwal Moves Into Court-Ordered Government Bungalow in Delhi

Kejriwal Says Centre Allotted Official Residence After Court Order

Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that he has moved into a government-allotted residence in Delhi with his family, saying the accommodation was provided following court directions in recognition of his role as the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sharing the update on X, Kejriwal said the Centre allotted him the residence in compliance with a judicial order.
“In the recent days, the central government had allotted me a house on the orders of the court, given my position as the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party. I have now shifted to that house along with my family,” he stated.

The allotment marks the end of a prolonged dispute over official accommodation for the AAP leader, who has been seeking government housing after stepping down from his previous official residence.

Delhi High Court Directive Led to Lodhi Estate Bungalow Allotment

The government allotted Kejriwal a Type 7 bungalow at Lodhi Estate, one of Delhi’s premium government residential zones, following directions from the Delhi High Court.

The bungalow, located at 95 Lodhi Estate, falls under the capital’s elite housing pool and is generally reserved for top bureaucrats, senior officials, and recognised national party leaders.

The allotment comes after a lengthy legal tussle during which the Centre faced pressure to provide official accommodation to the AAP chief.

What Is a Type 7 Government Bungalow?

In Delhi’s government housing structure, Type 7 (Type VII) bungalows are among the most spacious residences allotted to senior functionaries.

These residences are generally assigned to:

They are positioned just below Type 8 bungalows, which are reserved for Union Cabinet ministers. Type 7 accommodations provide larger living areas, enhanced security arrangements, and better facilities than houses allotted to MPs or mid-level officers.

Delhi HC Orders Removal of Videos Related to Kejriwal Court Proceedings

In a separate development, the Delhi High Court directed the removal of social media posts containing video clips of court proceedings related to Kejriwal’s plea seeking the recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma in the excise policy matter.

A Bench comprising Justices V. Kameswar Rao and Manmeet P. S. Arora issued notices to Kejriwal and senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, along with Congress leader Digvijay Singh, over allegations of sharing the court recordings online.

The court also sought a response from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, emphasising that recording and publishing court proceedings without permission violates High Court rules.

“We are concerned with the larger interest of the institution. Otherwise, if we don’t control this, it would go on,” the Bench observed while granting four weeks for responses. The matter is scheduled for hearing on July 6.
